Information on Service 'Light Pollution Weather'

[Use this service from your browser]

Further access options are discussed below

We give continuous night and day light measurements at all natural outdoor light levels by a network of low-cost lightmeters. Developed to start simple, global continuous high cadence monitoring of night sky brightness and artificial night sky brightening (light pollution) in 2009. The lightmeter network is a project of the Thüringer Landessternwarte, Tautenburg, Germany and the Kuffner-Sternwarte society at the Kuffner-Observatory, Vienna, Austria. It started as part of the Dark Skies Awareness cornerstone of the International Year of Astronomy.

Overview

You can access this service using:

This service is published as follows:

local means it is listed on our front page, ivo_managed means it has a record in the VO registry.

Other services provided on the underlying data include:

Input Fields

The following fields are available to provide input to the service (with some renderers, some of these fields may be unavailable):

NameTable Head DescriptionUnitUCD
epoch Date N/A N/A N/A
stationId Station ID Identifier of the measuring station, starting with an ISO CC N/A meta.id;meta.main
time Time (UTC) N/A N/A N/A
within plus/minus Give measurements within this many minutes of your chosen date and time. The sampling rate is 20 minutes minutes N/A

Default Output Fields

The following fields are contained in the output by default. More fields may be available for selection; these would be given below in the VOTable output fields.

NameTable Head DescriptionUnitUCD
epoch Date/Time Mean date and time of the observation d time.epoch
flux Flux Calibrated flux W.m**-2 phot.flux
lat Lat. Latitude of the observing station deg pos.earth.lat
logflux log(Flux) Natural logarithm of Flux for convenience N/A phot.flux
long Long. Longitude of the observing station deg pos.earth.lon
stationId Station ID Identifier of the measuring station, starting with an ISO CC N/A meta.id;meta.main

VOTable Output Fields

The following fields are available in VOTable output. The verbosity level is a number intended to represent the relative importance of the field on a scale of 1 to 30. The services take a VERB argument. A field is included in the output if their verbosity level is less or equal VERB*10.

NameTable Head DescriptionUnitUCD Verb. Level
epoch Date/Time Mean date and time of the observation d time.epoch 1
flux Flux Calibrated flux W.m**-2 phot.flux 1
stationId Station ID Identifier of the measuring station, starting with an ISO CC N/A meta.id;meta.main 1
long Long. Longitude of the observing station deg pos.earth.lon 1
lat Lat. Latitude of the observing station deg pos.earth.lat 1
logflux log(Flux) Natural logarithm of Flux for convenience N/A phot.flux 20
